A lack of access to stable housing is one of the most insurmountable barriers faced by people living with mental illness. Our evaluations have shown that the supportive housing services we offer increase self esteem and the overall quality of life for our residents. This section details each one of our residences.
DUNDAS STREET SITE & MILAN STREET SITE
Our Dundas and Milan Street sites offer medium level supportive housing for individuals who can live somewhat independently day-to-day, but may benefit from various levels of ongoing staff support and opportunities to socialize with their neighbours.
A Program Support Worker works with each resident providing flexible support based on the resident’s individual needs. Staff facilitate house meetings, social activities and discussion groups on a wide range of topics that are of interest to residents. Topics have been known to include: nutrition, budgeting, aging, current events, diabetes and healthy living.
In each building, residents have access to a community room where they can watch television, listen to music, play games, or chat. A partial meal program that offers breakfast and an evening meal Monday through Friday is the foundation of our community. This unique feature of the support and services we provide ensures good nutrition, provides a regular opportunity for neighbours to get to know one another and decreases the social isolation some experience when they dine alone. Both houses are close to TTC routes.
St. Jude Community Homes offers employment opportunities to residents on a limited basis through our meal, cleaning and landscaping programs.
The hours of support for both buildings are:
Monday – Friday 9am to 9pm
Saturday on-site support 11am to 7pm
Sunday and Holidays on-site support 11am to 7pm
One of the caretakers is on call 24/7
